· FREE TOY CROCHET PATTERN

Moon Ball is a soft and playful crochet ball inspired by the surface of the moon. The small circular details scattered across the ball resemble tiny craters, giving it a whimsical and slightly retro look – and that’s exactly how it got its name. This project is perfect if you enjoy working with colour combinations and simple shapes. The ball is made from individual panels that are crocheted separately and then joined together, making it a fun and satisfying make that’s easy to take along with you. It’s also a great way to use up small amounts of leftover yarn. The finished Moon Ball works beautifully as a baby toy, a decorative item for a nursery, or a handmade gift. Crocheted in cotton yarn, it’s soft, lightweight, and pleasant to hold – ideal for little hands.

TOOLS & MATERIALS

Hook size 2.5 mm · Scissors and needle · 8/4 cotton yarn (weight/length: 50 g = approx 160 m) · Teddy bear stuffing · Rattle ball

PATCHES

You can choose any color combination you'd like for this work. All rounds start by chaining two and finished by a slip stitch into the first stitch of the round. Thus crocheting in the same direction for all rounds. To make the craters I change the color between round 1 and 2 or 2 and 3.

1.rd: Start with 15 dc in magic ring (15)

2.rd: 3 dc in the same stitch, 2 dc x 5 (25)

3.rd: 1 dc, 3 dc in the same stitch, 4 dc x 4, 3 dc in the same stitch, 3 dc (35)

Cut the yarn and fasten off. Make 12 and make sure to fasten off all ends. To finish your craters; Crochet a round of loose slip stiches between your color change. Crochet from the right side through to the wrong side.

ASSEMBLING

Start by making two semicircles. Assembling 6 of the pentagons for each half of the ball. You crochet the pentagons together with single crochets through both loops on all the pentagons.

Afterwards you crochet the two semicircles together with single crochets just like you did when assembling the pentagons - still from the wrong side. When there is two sides left you turn it out so the right side is showing. Fill in some stuffing and the rattle ball, if you wish. Close off the last part by sewing with double thread and fasten off the ends.

REDSKABER & MATERIALER

Hæklenål 2.5 mm · Saks og nål · 8/4 bomuldsgarn (vægt/længde: 50 g = ca. 160 meter) · Bamsefyld · Raslekugle

PATCHWORK LAPPER

2.omg: 3 stgm i samme maske, 2 stgm x 5 (25)

3.omg: 1 stgm, 3 stgm i samme maske, 4 stgm x 4, 3 stgm i samme maske, 3 stgm (35)

Klip garnet og hæft det af. Lav 12 og sørg for at hæfte alle ender af. For at afslutte dine kratere; Hækl en omgang med løse kædemasker mellem dine farveskift. Hækl fra retsiden til vrangen.

MONTERING

Start med at lave to halvcirkler ved at samle seks femkanter i hver halvcirkel - dette udgør de to halvdele, der skal ende som en hel bold.
